In addition to machining parts, Advance Machining & Gear can also handle assembly in our machine shop. We'll machine your parts and assemble them into other components. We can be responsible for buying all of the components or none of them. Assembly is not new to us and is one of our core competencies.
Bar Feed Manufacturing
Typically, machined parts are made from a bar of material that is sawed close to the finish size of the part that is to be machined. However, many parts can also be made without the sawing operating by feeding a length of material into a bar feeding machine. Essentially, the part is separated from the raw material after it is machined instead of beforehand.
In addition, the bar feeder can be programmed to make multiple parts without any handling by an operator. This usually results in a lower price to the customer.
Parts that are 4" in diameter and smaller are excellent candidates for bar feeding.
Four-Axis Milling
If you have a part that requires machining operations to be performed on more than one side of that part, it is probably a good candidate for 4-axis machining.
On typical machining centers, a spindle holding a tool has the ability to move up and down. The table holding the part has the ability to move left, right, front, back, and any other direction on this plane.
However, a 4-axis machine allows all of these moves as well as a rotational move in another plane. Four-axis machines can easily cut grooves and drill multiple holes on a diameter. In addition it can machine a part on multiple sides in the same set up, which can greatly improve time and accuracy.
